Trombly Ltd. is currently hiring for a full-time financial reporter.
Job description
- Starting salary of 2500 RMB per month for first three months, followed by a salary review. At that point, salary will go up to 3500 to 5000 RMB, depending on skill, persistence, and ability to learn. At that point also, the employee will receive full benefits and government accreditation.
- The job location is near Xintiandi in downtown Shanghai. Employee is expected to work regular office hours. Evening and weekend work is not expected and not required.
- The idea candidate will have basic English skills and a basic knowledge of the financial industry in China. More importantly, however, the candidate will be able to learn quickly.

- Please send an English-language resume to Anna Zhang, with a 500-word English-language cover letter describing why you are interested in a career as a financial journalist and why you are suited for the job.Also, please describe where you see yourself in five years and where this job would fit into your long-term career plans.
- If you have prior English-language journalism experience, please submit three to six of your best clips.
- If you have no prior English-language journalism experience, please write a sample article as described below. Most of our employees do not have prior journalism experience, so this will not count against you.
Sample article
- Overview of recent changes in China's banking industry, securities industry, or insurance industry (your choice)
- Total word count: 800 words
- Must include recent regulatory and market changes, current size of the industry, and predictions of what is to happen next.
- Every single sentence in the article must be attributed to an authoritative source. Good sources include government announcements, company press releases, statistical reports by government agencies, published speeches of government officials, and news articles from government publications and newswires.
- If citing a quote from a speech, indicate when and where the speech was made.
- If citing a report, indicate when the report was issued.
- If mentioning a company, indicate the city where the company is based and give its full corporate name.
- There should be no sentences indicating personal opinions of the writer. (We're not currently hiring an opinion columnist, though the writer may be asked to write opinion columns after they have more experience covering the industry.)
- The story should be well organized and quotes and data presented in a standard US business news format, such as that used by the Wall Street Journal, BusinessWeek, and the Associated Press.
- There should be no spelling mistakes and as few grammar mistakes as possible. Use Microsoft Word's grammar and spelling checker, and re-read the story several times before submitting it.
